Made this awhile back. Thought I should probably add it to the blog.
I can't believe it's July already! It's been awhile since I posted anything. We just got back from visiting my aunts and Grandma in California. I got a rare chance to catch up with my two college friends as well. One of them just bought a new home so I wanted to bring her and her husband a housewarming gift. I decided on a handcrafted felt decor by Catshy Crafts. For my other friend, since I was meeting her daughter for the first time, I wanted to make something for her little girl. So I made her this bunny lovey blanket. I just love giving (and receiving) handcrafted gifts. Don't you?
I finally got around to making a fairy. I'm still experimenting with the pattern so this is my first attempt but I'm liking the result. My daughter loves her and named the fairy, Sara. I think it's funny considering the reason we named our daughter Teagan is because of a Canadian indie rock band called Tegan and Sara (they are sisters).
Meet Daisy, the Duck Lovey Blanket. She is about 14" X 14", made with lots of love and 100% acrylic yarn. She is soft and snuggly, and is waiting for a loving child who will take good care of her. Available for $30 on my Etsy shop.
I meant to post this a month ago but got side-tracked with orders and every day stuff. I made this Cloche hat for the 3-year old daughter of a good friend. The bow is removable and can be used as a hair clip or attach to a headband. As always, I had to bribe my daughter to model the hat for me before I wrap it up. :)
I really liked how the pattern turned out and I love the colors my friend choose. If anyone is interested, I will take custom order with your color preference and size. I plan to make another one but with a different type of yarn...more on that later! The pattern inspiration for this hat is from Naturally Nora Crochet - One of my favorite pattern creators: http://www.etsy.com/shop/naturallynoracrochet So many of my friends are having babies this year and I'm so excited for their new journey. It has also inspired me to make items that would be great baby gifts. It's not a new idea but I love the combination of amigurumi toy and a lovey blanket.
Meet Mimi, the kitty lovey blanket. She is made with 100% acrylic yarn and the blanket is about 14" X 14". My 3.5 year old daughter love this kitty lovey blanket. Mimi will be available on my Etsy shop for $35. I plan on making more to sell on Etsy and maybe at the local shop where my hats are currently sold. Finally finished my Panda Amigurumi. I love Pandas! They are such cuddly looking creatures. Did you know that you can only find pandas in China? And that their diet is 99% bamboo? It's amazing how big they can get just by eating bamboo. Due to agriculture, local communities of use of forest product and commercial logging , there are only about 1,600 pandas remaining in the wild. I do hope that the WWF will be able to make changes to help conserve the Pandas living environment.
Without further a due, please say hi to Mei Mei! I am participating in the 2013 Stop Suicide Charity Auction hosted by my good friend, Cristi, over at Motherhood Unadorned. The auction is to benefit the Overnight Walk for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The Out of the Darkness Overnight is a fundraising walk of 16-18 miles throughout the night, designed to raise funds and make a bold statement to bring the issue of suicide out into the light.
Why am I participating in this auction? I want to support my good friend who is doing this incredible walk and this is an important cause for her. But also to help her raise awareness for depression. It is a treatable illness but it's such a taboo topic for people. Hopefully with more awareness and education, people who needs help are able to seek help. Auction Dates: Bidding will commence on Friday 4/12 and end at 5pm EST Saturday 4/20. I find them to be such a majestic and beautiful creature. So I jumped to the chance to make a Turtle Amigurumi when a fan on FB asked if I could. The original design is by Bric-abrac-a (www.bricabraca.com) I did a little research on Turtles as I've heard that in some culture, turtle is a symbol of luck. Here's what I found...
The Turtle is an ancient symbol that represents creation, endurance, strength, stability, longevity, fertility, and innocence. The Turtle also provides protection, good fortune, and brings happiness and good omens. One of the four Chinese sacred animals (among the dragon, the phoenix, and the unicorn), the ever adapting turtle is a creature of both land and sea and can thrive in any environment. In Asian myth the turtle represents order and was thought to have created the entire universe from it's body parts. The heavens were formed from the shell, the earth was created from it's body and it's undershell was the underworld. In American Indian culture, the turtle represents the caring wisdom of the ancient ones and is respected for it's protective strength. The Turtle is considered to be the oldest, most sacred symbol of the Anishinabe and Haudenosaunee people. They believed that North America was created on the back of a turtle. What a beautiful weekend to spend Easter! We had a fabulous time with our friends this weekend and hope you had a good one too!
